Attitude Determination and Control System SME – TS/SCI Clearance w/CI Poly Required

Job Description

Leffler Consulting is seeking an Attitude Determination and Control System SME to join our team in Chantilly, VA. Work will be performed on-site with the customer and requires an active TS/SCI clearance with an adjudicated polygraph.

Duties
  • Provide expert advice on spacecraft attitude determination and control architectures, algorithms, sensors/actuators, and CONOPS across the full mission lifecycle (concept through on-orbit operations).
  • Serve as an independent advisor to government program managers: review contractor designs, analyses, simulations, and test plans; identify risks and gaps; recommend mitigations.
  • Support requirements development and verification for ACS subsystems, including performance, robustness, and fault-management requirements.
  • Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR), test readiness reviews, and anomaly resolution boards as the ACS technical authority.
  • Analyze stability and robustness of guidance and control algorithms using control theory methods and Monte Carlo simulations.
  • Independently assess contractor attitude control models, 6-DOF simulations, and performance predictions; provide red-team style reviews.
  • Advise on sensor/actuator selection and placement (star trackers, IMUs, sun sensors, reaction wheels, CMGs, thrusters) and associated procurement specifications.
  • Support on-orbit test planning, maneuver strategy, and ACS-related anomaly investigation, often coordinating across multiple contractors as a government technical lead.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support corporate initiatives.
Required Education
  • A Bachelor of Science or Master of Science Degree in Engineering
Required Experience
  • 10+ years in spacecraft attitude determination and/or control systems, with a deep guidance-navigation-control background
  • Strong experience in control theory, state estimation, and numerical simulation (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++ tools) applied to spacecraft ACS
  • Experience with national security space or civil space programs, with current TS/SCI and CI polygraph
